About Japan SPOTLIGHT

Japan Economic Foundation launched the JOURNAL OF JAPANESE TRADE & INDUSTRY in January 1982 to help bridge the information gap between Japan and the rest of the world. This bimonthly publication was the source of in-depth, analytical, historical and cultural information on Japan's trade, business, economic issues, current topics, legislation, politics. It combined official views of Japan with a wealth of features by distinguished writers from Japan and around the world.
In January 2014, the Journal was renamed ECONOMY, CULTURE & HISTORY Japan SPOTLIGHT Bimonthly, and has become an English E-Journal on our website since May 2011.Our website has been renewed in October 2017.
Japan SPOTLIGHT is our bimonthly E-Journal, published on the 10th of every odd month.

January 1982: January/February 1982 issue (Vol. 1)January/February 1982
First issue of the JOURNAL OF JAPANESE TRADE & INDUSTRY is published, subscribed by public organizations, universities, libraries, chambers of commerce, and opinion leaders from various circles.

January 2004: January/February 2014 issue (Vol. 133)February 2014 issue
It is renamed as the current ECONOMY, CULTURE & HISTORY Japan SPOTLIGHT Bimonthly with a new layout and cover design.

May 2011: May/June 2011 issue (Vol. 177)May/June 2011 issue
Our printed journal became an E-Journal, published on our website, in consideration of the importance of Internet usage.

Our E-Journal became available for free on our website, in the hope of providing more readers with our information.

Personal Information Protection Policy

1.Basic PolicyThe Japan Economic Foundation (hereinafter JEF, a general incorporated foundation) is keenly aware of the importance of personal information and handles such information appropriately throughout its activities. Namely JEF complies with all laws and ordinances pertaining to personal information and advances the following measures to sustain proper management and improvement of its personal information protection system.

2.Compliance with Laws and OrdinancesIn the handling of personal information, JEF complies with all laws and ordinances applied for protection of the personal information in question.

3.Acquisition of Personal InformationJEF shall acquire personal information through fair and lawful means.

4.Use and Supply of Personal Information to Third PartiesWith the exception of instances pursuant to laws and ordinances, or in cases based upon the consent of the person in question, JEF shall independently uses the personal information in its possession within the extent of JEF's use objectives (handling of requests to participate in events held by JEF, etc.), and shall not provide such information to third parties.

5.Outsourcing of Personal Information HandlingWithin the extent of its use objectives, there may be cases when JEF chooses to outsource all or part of its handling of personal information to a third party. In such instances, JEF shall demand proper management of personal information equivalent to the JEF's own procedures, while entering into an agreement pertaining to the handling of personal information on the condition of possessing proper personal information handling abilities.

6.Appropriate Management of InformationIn order to handle personal information in a secure and appropriate manner, security measures shall be devised for the sake of preventing unauthorized access to personal information, divulgation, loss, etc. of personal information, thereby striving to guarantee secure conditions in the handling of personal information.

1.Use of the WebsiteThe website of the Japan Economic Foundation (hereinafter JEF) has been established for the purpose of supplying information useful in fostering proper understanding of its activities. Before utilizing the Website, please closely read the following Terms of Use. Any use of the Website shall be construed to be based upon consent with the Terms of Use.

2.CopyrightsUnless otherwise stipulated, all copyrights concerning information posted on the Website shall belong to JEF. Use of information appearing on the Website without acquiring authorization shall be limited to cases of "reproduction for personal use" and "quotations" specified under the Copyright Law. Provided, however, that JEF reserves the right to reject links in cases when the contents of the website for the link in question falls under any of the following categories: (1) contents offensive to public morals and decency; (2) upon recognition as including contents in violation of laws, ordinances and other requirements, or posing the threat of such violations; and (3) other cases posing the risk of creating false impressions among third parties, etc. When creating a link, it is requested that notification be made to JEF's General Affairs Division (info@jef.or.jp) regarding the website to which the link provides access, the address of the said website, the contents of the website to which the link provides access, the purpose of the link and any other matters considered pertinent.

4.Disclaimer of Warranty

  1. JEF shall assume no responsibility for any problems or damages suffered by users resulting from the contents of the Website or from the use of websites accessed through links from the Website. For the convenience of users, in addition to the contents posted on the Website by JEF itself, the Website also contains contents, links and other information presented by third parties beyond the control of JEF, as well as translations of such materials performed by JEF. Accordingly, the Foundation is unable to guarantee whether any of the contents on the Website posted in such ways are accurate, useful, dependable, matched to the objectives of users and so forth. With regard to websites for which links are posted, it is recommended that terms of use of those websites be reviewed.
  2. JEF shall assume no responsibility for any damages suffered by users or third parties from the supply of information on the Website, or for delays, changes, interruptions, suspensions, stoppages, discontinuations or other developments pertaining to that supply, or any other damages occurred in relation to the Website.
